Laugh out loud story about a guy who knows he has a superhero complex Beginning when he was young and tried to fly after his first kissmakes you wonder if there really is a town of Mishap from the author of Baptists at our Barbecue, this will make you laugh so hard you cry D I like Robert Smith His books are all about small town, eccentric country folks, but I get some good belly laughs from him This is a silly book, in the same vein as Baptist at my Barbecue, but I liked it. This book is just plain funny I love his assessment of Utah as he contemplates moving out there, and then I love his attitude as he goes about having his adventures and trying to save the town A mystery love story that doesn t take itself too seriously. So funny An exaggerated view of LDS culture, dating and marriage I recently re read this and was cracking up It is a light and fun read. Captain Matrimony, by Robert F Smith, is a mystery romance following the story of Andy Phillips Andy was a calculus teacher in North Carolina until the highschool he worked at burned down Andy s bishop reached out to him about a teaching opportunity in Thunder City Utah, and being left without a job after the fire, he accepted Leaving behind his hometown, his parents, girlfriend, and everything he knew he left for Utah to teach high school, as well as a summer class mentioned in his contract Captain Matrimony, by Robert F Smith, is a mystery romance following the story of Andy Phillips Andy was a calculus teacher in North Carolina until the highschool he worked at burned down Andy s bishop reached out to him about a teaching opportunity in Thunder City Utah, and being left without a job after the fire, he accepted Leaving behind his hometown, his parents, girlfriend, and everything he knew he left for Utah to teach high school, as well as a summer class mentioned in his contract The book is primarily his experiences in Thunder City, nicknamed Mishap, and while there, he stumbles upon mystery and love like he never had before The romance between Andy and a certain individual in the novel is quite believable and quite real It s natural and it was obvious from the start that they were meant for eachother However, the romance between a character Named Gordon, a goofy store clerk, and another individual I can t name is iffy They found each other and instantly fell in love, however by their descriptions they are compatible in no way, and it all just felt very forced and painful Their relationship made no sense and left me feeling unsatisfied However, this was just a small piece in the plot, and the main romance story was solid, so it really doesn t hurt the overall feel of the story I enjoyed this novel, Andy had me laughing at every page, and it was even funny enough at parts that my eyes teared up and my couldn t read due to the fact that I was laughing so hard The story flowed very well, and read easily From his move to Utah, to his interactions with the townsfolk, it was all smooth and enjoyable In respect to the romance aspect of the novel, I, a 15 year old boy, enjoyed it, and that holds a lot of weight It wasn t too lovey dovey, or cheesy, it all felt real and normal I ll put a dent my masculinity and say that Andy and his love interest were so cute together, and I was so excited when they finally kissed The romance made me happy, it wasn t intertwined with tragedy and it was all quite satisfying All in all this novel was an excellent read I d recommend to anyone Same author as Baptists at Our Barbeque A fun romance and a quick read.
