Rafferty's Legacy Amusing amnesia story where heroine is not above manipulating others by playing up or playing down her convenient memory loss There is a long and bitter generational feud that drives the protagonists apart The secondary character of the uncouth uncle was instrumental in driving a wedge between his niece and her fiance but he is not really villainous, just stubborn, bitter and proud. The first half of the story was much stronger Imho, the author made a mistake by having heroine recover her full memories too early in the game, and then striving to find lame excuses to keep the would be lovers apart. All in all, it was a lighthearted, pleasant vintage romance. I actually liked this one a lot When the story opens, the Hero and heroine are in love and celebrating at their engagement party, when they are rudely interrupted by an old man who claims to be the uncle of the heroine He is the sworn enemy of the Hero in a decades old feud started by the grandparents. The heroine has come to Australia from England and didn t know any of her relatives She s just been orphaned and was still grieving when she agreed to marry the Hero The Hero is shocked and angry and he gives her an ultimatum The heroine would have chosen to stay w her fianc as against this stranger, but, at that moment, when he turned to her, she saw no love in his eyes Knowing that her future marriage is doomed She chooses to go w her uncle. It s actually a double whammy for the poor heroine since she is still mourning her family and now she has lost her fianc She tries her best to keep house for her uncle but in the process bumps her head and gets amnesia This is key, since now it s the uncle who fills in the blanks for her and at first he makes her believe she came out to Australia to be w him, never mentioning the fianc. She starts working for a cattle auction house, where the Hero bumps into her again, and she treats him like a stranger At first he cannot believe that she has amnesia, but the heroine also starts to suspect there is to the story than her uncle has led her to believe She then forces the uncle tell her the whole story. The Hero is actually remorseful and confess his love despite the feud He wants a second chance with her He also finally realizes that the heroine really has lost her memory and had he not acted in such a boorish manner, none of this would have happened Now he is simply a stranger to her and She refuses to marry himThe Hero has been up north, he has purchased another property where they can have their own farm away from the feud, but the heroine refuses The bit of angst continues while the heroine has her amnesia, there is a bit of OM interest in her that makes the Hero jealous Then the heroine finally regains her memory and remembers her reason for leaving the Hero She had thought he didn t love her, but now with his constant avowals and his willingness to live elsewhere for her, she finally believes in his love and is about to tell him whenShe gets a visit from the OW.The OW tries to do the usual sowing the seeds of doubt bit For most part the heroine does not believe her, however she now comes to a different realization If she agrees to settle elsewhere with the Hero, she will be depriving him of his birthright, however, if she marries him and stays, she will be resented by his people because of the feud. The Hero is relentless, he won t agree to let her go, even if she continues to refuse him Despite everything he has not cancelled the date of their wedding, he has her wedding dress in his house, still hoping the heroine will change her mind. There is a bit of silliness near the end where he keeps them both stranded in a cabin so he can compromise her and force a wedding Finally in the end the uncle also relents and they settle the feud between them and the wedding goes as scheduled OW declines to attend.I liked this a lot It didn t take long for the Hero to feel remorse for what he did, he groveled soon after and tried to explain himself He never gave the OW time of day and he didn t give up. I liked this book fine It was good but not great Happy Reading Would Their Life Be Ruined By This Feud Promise Not To Have Anything To Do With Patrick Rafferty, Carl Asked Teresa, Loving Him, Wanted To Agree Yet How Could She Refuse To See Her Newly Found Uncle It Was Only Then That She Learned About The Feud That Had Plagued Their Families For Generations And She Knew That Whatever Had Been Held Against Her Family Would Inevitably Be Leveled Against HerHow Could There Be Any Future Happiness For Her And Carl
