fare So there s no vampires, weres , or magic other than the most powerful of all magics, the magic of love I really enjoyed these shorts, which were for the most part, great little tastes of just how sweet love can be.Shelter From the Storm Lori Foster I am only half way through with the six shorts in the books but this one, the first in the anthology, is my favorite so far The romance here was incredibly sweet, and gentle with two people who have been important parts of each others lives finally taking the next step to become so much.Take Me Home Erin McCarthy After making a total mess of her life, she runs back home to the one man she can alway count on, giving him the opportunity for him to pursue what he has always wanted her I do like the friends finally discovering their true feeling theme of the story, but I had a hard time getting past the situation of her pregnancy, if she really had feelings for him she was kind of a mess esteemwise So the happily ever after didn t feel so ever after to me.Razor s Edge Sylvia Day This story takes things to a whole other level of steaminess, which is not surprising since a companion novella is coming out under the Heat banner in the fall But the intensity works just as well for this one as the sweetness did in Foster s when the hero with a dangerous life gets a chance with his friend s widow, I woman he has always secretly loved.Midnight Rendezvous Jamie Denton doesn t follow the friends to lovers theme, but a man whose addiction has nearly ruined his career, finds his muse in a scarred woman who now lives in solitude It was hard to imagine a happy ending for these two different lives, but I liked theirs.Dime Store Cowboy Kate Douglas This one was a big surprise to me coming from Douglas, whose writing is generally wayerotic than my normal fare in fact I had to check her website to make sure that is was the same Kate Douglas I just loved the hero in this one, who apparently was a side character from and earlier cowboy romance He s left his big city life, to try and find the man he s left behind at some point in his life, and I loved the delight that he finds in starting his new life in Colorado, along with love.Life in the Past Lane Kathy Love Another really sweet ending, for a man who dreads returning to the town he fled as a child and discovers that looking through adult eyes, everything that he d always wanted might just be there for him now Edited by New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster a deeply moving anthology of all new stories These six stories by beloved and bestselling authors are a bounty of riches for those who enjoy reading about love and the potential it has to change our lives As with previous collections in this series, the authors are donating proceeds to charityFeatures all new novellas from Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy, Sylvia Day, Jamie Denton, Kate Douglas, and Kathy LoveThe authors are donating all of their proceeds from The Promise of Love to One Way Farm, a charitable organization Shelter From the Storm by Lori Foster Short and sweet It really was a short story I guess it could have been longer, but all of the important stuff was included Take Me Home by Erin McCarthy This was the reason I read this book Only so that I could claim that I was caught up for the most part on the series I can say that I didn t care whether or not this character got her own story At least she realized that she hadn t been very smart in the past Razor s Edge by Sylvia Day there Shelter From the Storm by Lori Foster Short and sweet It really was a one really interesting, and if fleshed out a littlecould have been it s own book Dime Store Cowboy by Kate Douglas This was actually a pretty cute story At first I didn t like Betsy Mae, but she grew on me Life in the Past Lane by Kathy Love Way too short I really couldn t get a good sense of the characters Only read take me home 2 stars for take me home. 1st story by Lori Foster Roy and Sabrina there is a thunderstorm and runs over to Roy s place and he holds her until the storm passes Sabrina works in social services with kids with no home and Roy is a vet that also runs a shelter for animals Roy decides it time to tell Sabrina his feelings This was a very sweet love story 2nd story by Erin McCarthy This is a very short story that basically tells us about Sara Parker, the woman that had a one night stand with Evan Monroe and got pregnant in the book The Chase We find out that she lived in foster homes her whole life and never thought she was good enough even for her best friend Travis who she left behind when she ran It starts off with her being honest with Evan and saying she doesnt know who the father is and not liking what she had become and decides to go home back to Travis to find herself Travis has been in love with Sara since they were kids They both were in the foster care system He doesnt take sex lightly where as she went the opposite way But Travis makes her see she is worth of love and he wants to marry her and be the father of her baby 3rd story by Sylvia Day Jack Killigrew works for the US Marshal Servicespecifically with the Shadow Stalker unit He is a loner coming from the foster care system and believes his job will keep him from the one thing he wants desperately, Rachel Rachel is a widowed mother whom Jack was good friends with her husband since her husband died she loved her husband and the person she was with him but since he dies she had to become stronger andindependent and knows what she wants and that is Jack So she sets up a hardcore seduction scene which Jack tries to fight for her own good of course men are so stupid sometimes This story was the main reason I bought this book Jack and Rachel were in the Men out of Uniform anthology in Brian and Layla story and I just had to read there story after meeting them PLEASE NOTE This review is for Erin McCarthy s FAST TRACK series, book 4.5 Take Me Home ONLY.When if I read the other novellas, I will edit the review accordingly.Book 4.5 is a continuance of the Sara drama Sara has a one night stand in November in book 3 with Evan lead of book 4 She nearly cost him is review is for Erin McCarthy s FAST TRACK series, book 4.5 Take Me Home ONLY.When if I read the other novellas, I will edit the review accordingly.Book 4.5 is a continuance of the Sara drama Sara has a one night stand in November in book 3 with Evan lead of book 4 She nearly cost him is newlywed marriage by announcing after nearly 5 months that she was pregnant with his kid.Evan Kendall have found their way through the Sara situation Evan wants to help Sara get through the rest of the pregnancy, even after she springs the news on him that she d also had a one nighter with some other guy Sara declines his help and goes back to Kentucky, seeking solace in dearest childhood friend that she s had a mad crush on for 1 2 her life.Sara and Travis s story is SUPER short, too short really Although they ve had plenty of childhood, adolescent some young adult history, they neededcharacter development as a couple before the ending The ending is inconclusive as well The biggest question, the only that matters who s kid is it is never answered at least not in this book. This short story almost feels like an after thought It could have been added as an epilogue or sub plot in The Chase I m fairly certain that others readers feel the same way Very short stories in this anthology But, an enjoyable read Some of the stories a bit on the edge of believability, but, that s why we read romance sometimes. I thought all of these stories were adequate but over very quickly I don t mean they were short, I mean they suddenly concluded I expect short story anthologies to simply be glimpses but with these stories the ending swiftly followed the climax Just when it was getting good or better or whatever it suddenly ended It was odd that it seemed to happen in nearly every story and I kept being disappointed and looking for missed pages The theme of these stories is that most of the characters I thought all of these stories were adequate but over very quickly I don t mean they were short, I mean they suddenly concluded I expect short story anthologies to simply be glimpses but with these stories the ending swiftly followed the climax Just when it was getting good or better or whatever it suddenly ended It was odd that it seemed to happen in nearly every story and I kept being disappointed and looking for missed pages The theme of these stories is that most of the characters grew up in the system or have lost their way somehow The proceeds of sales of the book go to One Way Farm.Shelter From the Storm by Lori FosterRoy Pilar is in love with his neighbor Sabrina Downey But Sabrina isthan his neighbor When they were both teens she lived next door and his family suspected she was being abused When her father tried to sell her to a drug dealer the Pilar family intervened and took guardianship of Sabrina Overcoming a violent past, Sabrina now 25, is very independent and works with abused kids She lives across the hall from Roy and sometimes, when it storms, she runs to Roy to hide, for comfort and to be held Roy, 29, runs a clinic animal shelter and though he s known for a long time, he s decided it s time Sabrina knows that he wants her, forever.Take Me Home by Erin McCarthy Travis has been in love with Sara since they were kids in Kentucky but he hasn t seen her in 2 years So when she shows up unexpectedly he s thrilled and then he sees that she visibly pregnant and he s crushed that another man has claimed her When Sara reveals that she s made many mistakes and doesn t know who the father is Travis is still supportive and even though he s not into recreational sex he doesn t judge her and offers her a place to stay and get things back on track Sara has a lot of issues to overcome but coming home again to Travis might be exactly what she needs. This story takes place in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky which is pretty cool since that s real close to home for me I read a few reviews that stated that Sara s storyline from The Chase ruined not only that book, but any chance for redemption of Sara Most people seemed to hate her and hate her still orafter reading this story I ve never met Sara but I didn t like the way her story here began and I only slightly warmed up to her in the end I d imagine that had I read The Chase, I d hate her as well.Razor s Edge by Sylvia Day US Marshal Shadow Stalker Jack Killigrew is a loner and a product of foster care He has only three loves his job, his deceased friend s wife, Rachel and her son Riley And because he promised his friend Steve that he d watch out for them, and since he knows he s no good gone, she can t change that, and she s been alone for two years She knows she wants Jack and everyone in the family, including Steve s relatives support her But Jack has never had anyone to come home for or to and he knows he s no good for Rachel and Riley but he can t seem to fight off a very determined Rachel If you ve read the AWESOME anthology, Men Out Of Uniform you might recall that Jack and Rachel make an appearance in Taking the Heat It was nice to finally read about Jack and Rachel since maybe I even drooled a little over Jack during that story Midnight Rendezvous by Jamie DentonBurnett Dupree is in desperate need of another Broadway hit Determined to remain sober and turn things around he rented a room over top a lady s garage in his home town of New Orleans He s paid 6 months in advance and thanks to a midnight muse he s writingthan ever Every night at half past midnight, Burnett kills the lights in his apartment and waits for his landlady and muse to come outside of work out wear from her home, sells locally and does her best to stay away from any human interaction But Mr Durpee won t take no for an answer.Dime Store Cowboy by Kate DouglasEditorial Director, Mark Connor has decided he s not getting any younger so it s time to make a change He s leaving Manhattan and heading for Colorado to find himself The author that launch his career hightailed it to Colorado for love Cowboy In My Pocket and last time he visited her he realized Colorado made him feel like a new man He also envies the love Tag and Michelle share but after two failed marriages he fresh bruises and hating herself, gorgeous Besty Mae Twigg is left to run the ranch when her brother and sister in law leave for an impromptu honeymoon Mark expected to be a guest but he has no problem filling in as the help if Betsy s around Life In the Past Lane by Kathy LoveWhen Rocco Vicente s NYC editor tell his him wants Rocco to attend his 15 year high school reunion in Beals Point, Rocco thinks he s kidding What in the world would the writer of NYCs wildly successful column Life In the Fast Lane, which chronicled his dating life a la Sex and the City for men write about from his reunion And Rocco has no interest in revisiting the town where he cared about no one and no one cared about him He spent his final two years of high school there living at the Chisholm Boys Home wanting to know what it felt like to be apart of a family But now, Rocco has reinvented his life, he s successful and driven and he wants that past to stay where it is in the past But his editor isn t kidding so Rocco pulls up to the bed and breakfast he s staying at and keeps reminding himself that it s only two days BB owner and reunion organizer, Franny Arsenault Mullins can t believe he s home Rocco s here She had a huge crush on him in high school, though he never knew, and she s thought of him endlessly since then Will he stick around long enough for Franny to show him all the things he missed the first time The stories were short, readers have not yet connected with the characters before they connected physically I like he stories though, even if it feels like they fell in love too fast The second one tho, where the h is not sure who is the father of her unborn child, I am not too keen about her I feel bad for the sweet guy she went back to. Five authors wrote excellent stories about true love for all the characters in the book I loved it.
