[PDF/EBOOK] (The Short Con)

The Short ConAch character was memorable "and interesting The book also deals very lovingly but playfully with the detectivepolicenoir tropes in a way that made me "interesting The book also deals very lovingly but playfully with the detectivepolicenoir tropes in a way that made me out loud at several points The whimsical drawing style and off the rails in a good way plot definitely made me want to read the next installment I really thought this was a lot of fun A rich orphan girl gets put into an orphanage home below her station and finds the whole thing is run as a detective agency or cop shop Mary becomes the partner of Pops and a girl who specializes in forensics on the homicide team I m not sure the appropriate age range for this as it is a simple ntertaining story for kids but the language is aimed at the higher Oklahoma 24 7 educated Pops has a habit of calling people names such as Jane Eyre Gertrude Stein Howard Hughes and Virginia Woolf to just name a few The first time Pops speaks to Mary he asks her to have herxistential crisis somewhere I Went Walking else I found this humour hilarious but think the understanding will come for older children This is the first in a series and I d certainly read the next one The setup of kid detectives living in an orphanage cannot begin toxplain how fun this comic is Mary Branwell rece. Owski prefers to work alone But when she's saddled with a rookie partner named Mary Branwell Pops won't stop until she to work alone But when she's saddled with a rookie partner named Mary Branwell Pops won't stop until she who offed Mary's parents whether Branwell wants her to. .
Ntly orphaned is teamed up "With Popowski A Hard Boiled "Popowski a hard boiled cop to investigate the fire which killed Mary s parents Popowski s dialogue is stellar There are robot dogs I wish oh how I wish this was an ongoing series But there is only one small volume which you should buy read and cherish A send up of the detective genre in a small book children s graphic novel format by Adventure Time guy Pete Toms and Aleks Sennwald Mary a rich girl is recently orphaned placed into an orphanage that is actually run as a detective agency why Because that s just funny where she is invited to team with Pops Popowski who specializes in forensics and has decided to solve the mystery of whether Mary s parents were murdered or notPops also has a kind of wise girl way of referring to people as Jane Eyre Nietzsche Virginia Woolf Howard Hughes and other as Jane Eyre Nietzsche Virginia Woolf Howard Hughes and other kids wouldn t know about but she also makes references to xistential angst so this may appeal to snarky parents as well as tweens I picked it off the pile of kid books here because of the title which immediately made me smile and then I liked the alt comix type style and I liked the humor in it and so did so far one of my tweens First in a series. Orphans Solving A Murder More
solving a murder More this series please Mr Toms Note I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss Hard boiled with a sense of humor this book is delightful Little girls will LOVE it and want to be just like the girls in this story Funny fast read with tons of references that will go over kids heads but be appreciated by adults A fun short all ages graphic novel that seems to skew to an older audience because of some of the references which would most likely fly over the heads of younger readers and at times seem dark and blunt Still a fun take on the hard boiled detective genre I think it would make a good series and would "welcome reading the next installment if there was one The Short has "reading the next installment if there was one The Short has hilarious and uniue sense of humor The book never feels like it s catering specifically to children it s target audience and instead has me laughing over references to Nietche Truman Capote and Virginia Wolfe along with cat puns The artwork is lovely but the protagonists spunky Pops and her remarkably charming affect is what carries this comic Really njoyed all of the characterizations in this graphic novel True Detective meets Encyclopedia Brown but set in a girls' orphanage Rich Barrett Mental FlossA loving and hilarious pastiche of the detective genre Legendary kid detective Pops Pop.
